A children’s book, for me at least, comes from my wild imagination and sometimes out of necessity. Princess and Chicken Learn to Fly came about because I was dared to write a story about a single mum and her daughter who loved horses. This was the better part of five years ago, the book was written within a few days a lay dormant on my laptop until recently.
For some reason, or no reason at all, I decided to publish the simple story on Amazon. I kept it simple, paid next to nothing for some useable illustrations, used typesetting from a previous book and that was pretty much it. I had put off the idea of publishing Princess and Chicken Learn to Fly because of cost, Space Ranger Fred set me back a pretty penny and I simply didn’t have the resources to publish this little book for girls.
Perhaps I have oversimplified things with this children’s book and with it only having an Amazon ISBN number it really is the most basic form of self-publishing. To anyone out there who struggling to be found, get their books published and says they can’t afford to please think again. The total cost for Princess and Chicken Learn to Fly was only £54!
I never expected to fall in love with this “very sweet tale” that is “Short too” as my mother said after she read her copy (she is always the first to buy) , but in love with a delightful tale, I fell. The book has been published in the most simple way, with almost no marketing other than a Facebook page and some friends. But it is out there. Is this the pauper’s side of vanity publishing? I don’t know but the half a decade journey with Princess and Chicken Learn to Fly has been extremely enjoyable.
Now let’s see what happens to this book published on a shoestring! Buy it and you can be part of the fun!
